I went and looked closer today, I actually am not sure whether it is paint or some sort of material that they rolled out and stuck on but it is definitely not slick, it was almost like really fine sand paper

yeah, that would make sense. I don't think the city would be that stupid to put slippery paint down, NATHAN.

Probly the same materials the use for crosswalks. Its a sort of reflective vinyl. And it is glued to the street not painted on.

This is off topic on the matter on bike lanes, but do I seem like the type of person who would need a longer stem? I feel like 100mm is kind of short.

A happy little hint to make the annoying ads go away:
If you have Firefox, you can add an add-on called ad-blocker, which will make it so you don't see any ads. Just click alt>tools>add-ons, and search for it. Lots of adds, i know.
If you don't have Firefox, well then you can just GTFO.

@nick: Nude picture of myself? Maybe... fixedlove: Do you need a 100mm stem? I'm trading in for a 110mm Thomson x2 for a new build. Happy Birthday L.V. Fixed!

Yes I would like a shorter stem but also in the market for a Thomson in 90mm

Fixedlove, you're too tall to need a 90mm stem. HTFU. Josh, it's all in the feel.

What if he is using pursuit bars? I feel if I were to have those handlebars I'd want a smaller stem.

Fixedlove, you're too tall to need a 90mm stem. HTFU. Josh, it's all in the feel. I see, I didn't really think about height being an issue. I strictly wanted a shorter stem for aesthetic purposes, I feel like they look weird when long

That's fucking ridiculous. Changing how your bike rides and fits you so it looks better when taking pictures of it? GTFO with that shit. And people wonder why road cyclists don't take fixiekids seriously?

Well if you have crazy reach "bullhorns" having a 10-20mm stem shorter than usual isn't too uncommon

Yeah, but he has track bars and clearly said it was strictly for aesthetic purposes.

Lol I'm glad I get very good advice from more experienced riders. Or else I would probably still be riding that old schwinn I use to have ewww

Yeah, it is better to learn from others mistakes or history, but sometimes you have to take a risk.

Purposefully not having a correct bike fit is not taking a risk, it's just being stupid.

I'm on the fence between two sizes on the bike I'm getting. It's either possibly not having enough setback for my saddle, or having wayyyyyy too much ht and not being able to get my bars low enough. Feels bad, man. What I need is a proper bike fitting. I have my saddle back pretty far and I sometimes feel that I can scoot it a few mm's forward and raise it. Short legs are short (for my height).

I meant in sizing of components. For example: I normally ride 100mm stem, but I'm willing to take a risk and buy a 110mm stem. But do not buy a frame/ frame set unless you know what size you are.

I know what size frame I ride. But the frame we're getting from our sponsor, Orbea, comes in sizes that will jeopardize me in one way or another. It's either risk not having enough setback with the aero seatpost that comes with the frame, or not getting to be able to get my bars down low enough, even with a -17 degree stem. The difference in tt length is only 1cm, but the difference in ht length is 2cm. Both of the frames have a longer ht than I currently ride, and they have tt lengths +/- 5mm than what I currently ride.

get the bigger one, being up 2 more cm isnt going to make you any slower but having your saddle slammed back is just dumb

Yeah, I say +2 cm ht frame.
