I feel like our community is not large enough or tight enough to really fund a co-op right now. The only people who will use it are fixie kids as most roadies are doctors and lawyers and wouldn't let any of us touch their bikes with a 10 foot pole. And you have to pay rent at Emergency Arts where brad was doing it. I'm assuming this is why it closed?

brad is moving to colorado. the shop is empty now. as a co-op we can put on events and rides and get more people involved. fix and sell bikes etc. if 5 or 6 of us could split the rent itd be around 50 each a month.

We would need a legit mechanic involved.......... Like maybe nathan........... But no wheel building.

Why not involve wheel building? It seems like a good idea for this to happen, but however many riders there are that make it to the co-op seems slim.

I read a news article at one point. He had a deal worked out with the RTC to get bikes that were left on buses. He would donate the kids bikes, then fix up the adult bikes and sell them at the coop to make money for it

i can get press about the bike shop and we can throw an event or race to raise some money to pay rent. i love the idea of fixing up bikes for kids. anyone want to get together and talk about real possibilities for this?

Any way it could be a little closer to the university? Or is that a matter of not cheap enough rent around unlv?

ya know... THE BIKE CO-OP, DOWNTOWN, that's been there for what... 2 years? or something sorry? what, no I didn't mean it like that anyways, you guys seem interested enough to start it up. I'd make it community-owned, like a 5 or 10 dollar monthly membership that goes towards rent, parts, etc., and if that doesn't pay the necessities have the "owners" pay the rest. You could probably find an outside party who's willing to help pay or donate parts to start out with, or maybe give you a small grant or something. Volunteer-run of course. anyways, that's along the lines of how I'd do it. this is awesome, good luck. I'd be willing to help out the next time I come around with anything.
