Hey guys, why don't we all get together and ride the Red Rock Loop?
Saturday, May 7th @9am? we can meet at the Starbucks on Town Center and Charleston.
A helmet and at least a front brake is highly recommended. If you don't have proper foot retention (or a front brake without proper foot retention), I'll ask that you do not participate for the safety of the group. Also, at least one bottle of water. I wouldn't bring a bag, if possible.
Since Red Rock is a national park, it costs $3 to ride. You can also buy a pass for $30 that is good for a year and gets in 3 others with you.
Come on out and challenge yourself. The ride is hard, there's no doubting that. There's over 1600' of climbing in 13.5mi, and 1500' of it is in the first 4.5mi.
The route is roughly 27mi.

All riders who come out and finish the ride get an exclusive sticker. Oh boy! This is a great chance for you guys to ride with other lvfixed members and see a part of your city you might not have seen before.

please wear a helmet if you plan on attending this ride. i regularly hit 45mph+ on this loop. I crashed once on the loop on a brakeless track bike. tore my rotator cuff, tons of road/desert rash, and cracked a helmet (and cracked the bike, too). and that was when i had ~3 years of riding a brakeless track bike under my belt. sometimes shit happens and i'd rather wear my helmet and not look as cool than be a vegetable for the remainder of my life.

Im going to try to get a helmet for this ride. Does anyone know if the gyro stylus is a good helmet? I was looking at it. Seeems like a good helmet, but I want to see if anyone has any experience with one?

I've only heard good things about the Stylus. But I'm sure you can find a good helmet for cheaper than that.

here's the thing with helmets: go to a shop and try on every helmet without looking at the pricetag. just buy the one that fits the best, no matter the price. if it doesn't fit, you probably won't wear it. FWIW, the specialized helmemts fit almost exactly the same throughout their whole line, save for the new prevail. I've heard nothing but good things about the echelon, and it goes for $60

Yeah, I was going to the bike shop later today, and thanks on the info about the echelon.

Btw Climbing gears probly a good idea guys. You wont finish on a 48-15. Just a thought.

Post by craig on Apr 26, 2011 14:46:11 GMT -8
yeah, some gear inches less than 80 and you won't die.

Post by nlinealac on Apr 26, 2011 14:47:19 GMT -8
How dose one calculate gear inches?

|
Post by rabbi on Apr 26, 2011 14:53:53 GMT -8
one thing to keep in mind is your gear ratio coming down. i know people who have done it multiple times on 49/14. shit, Novelo did sufferfest on 49/14 or 15. but Novello is also a monster who feels no pain. I'll be on 47/17 or so.
