It takes a while to get used to upping your ratio. I've been running 46-15 for a while now. I can climb with it because I've built up the pythons to do so.

Well, based on you saying the 700' climb in 7mi was tough from the golf course ride and that it only hits like a 5% grade maximum, I'm saying that is a day in the park compared to the Red Rock Loop. The first 4.5mi of the Loop is an average of 7% and kicks up to, I believe, 11-14% in a few spots. Oh yeah, and then there's The Wall that is like 25%.
Don't feel bad about getting off your bike if you need to. I walked a few sections on my first time. It's a tough ride, man.

I used to love pushing huge gears up steep ass hills. But then I realized I can spin lower gears, still be a baller on the climbs, and still have my knees when I'm thirty. Pushing yourself up hills doesn't necessarily mean destroying your knees, because that's what you're doing. Trust me, loosen up your ratio and you'll be able to push yourself even more on the hills. You'll go twice as fast. And eventually get a road bike and start some of the big boy climbs like Mt. Charleston and Villa Ridge repeats.

I fucking hate Villa Ridge repeats. I also hate going out to Harmon hill and doing it 5-6 times in a row. It's probably a solid 15%. Craig, you need to go and do Hollywood repeats. 20%+ and more than one is just stupid. I guess I also need to take you to Chcuk's hill in Anthem. Yeah, I know what you mean. But I hate spinning low gears on climbs. It's my personal preference. We all started in the same boat. It's mostly because when you first start, you're not used to making your legs move fast. Once you get over trying to push 75rpms and realize you'll need your knees in the future, you'll learn to spin and actually be a lot faster.

seriously, bring water. if you're like me, you'll need a lot of water. water to drink. water to pour on self. and more to drink. it's fine once you get to the downhills though.

I have a helmet someone can use. Its a cracked giro atmos. Just dont fall on your left side. Any thing is beeter then nothing i suppose.

Hey guys, why don't we all get together and ride the Red Rock Loop? Saturday, May 7th @9am? we can meet at the Starbucks on Town Center and Charleston.
A helmet and at least a front brake is highly recommended. If you don't have proper foot retention (or a front brake without proper foot retention), I'll ask that you do not participate for the safety of the group. Also, at least one bottle of water. I wouldn't bring a bag, if possible. Since Red Rock is a national park, it costs $3 to ride. You can also buy a pass for $30 that is good for a year and gets in 3 others with you. Come on out and challenge yourself. The ride is hard, there's no doubting that. There's over 1600' of climbing in 13.5mi, and 1500' of it is in the first 4.5mi. The route is roughly 27mi.
