Dear Rabbi: I got new soma double straps. I went to put them on but when I put them on in the conventional manner (straps under through the pedals first, then around the top through the cages, then out and down through the locking mechanism, the logo is upside down (which is fine but suggests that they were intended to go the other way). It is also pretty tight where the main piece of leather splits into two. The main piece is really straddling the pedals pretty hard. If I were to put them through so that the logo faces up, with the straps going through the cages first then down and around through the pedals this creates an awkward straps dangling straight up effect. What do? post a pic plz The non-conventional way which seems to work better: The conventional way that doesn't seem to work very well: for example, see dave's pedals: I didn't put them on because they are ridiculously hard to remove

Try this method. You leave the straps unbuckled so you can cinch on the go

oh, so you're just concerned with the logo?i'm guessing soma did that so when your feet aren't in the pedals the logo is right side up so it can be easily read. install them as normal (2nd picture)

I'll go with the second, thanks for the help guys

return the somas and get toshi or mks straps and you won't have to adjust regularly. those cheap doubles stretch out really easily, really quickly.

Was this in reference to me? I totally agree with you but I'm not dropping $50 on the brooks bar tape I'll try and match it with a cheaper brand. suggestions? nothing's gonna match besides brooks leather tape. just do black tape. Shellac'd cloth tape ! velo-orange.blogspot.com/2009/01/shellac-and-bar-tape-guide.htmlDear rabbi, do you know anyone that still has a HoC jersey, in my size, that they may be willing to sell? Or any other jersey that is not grotesque. Thanks.

I have heard of this and was wondering how it works. I had visions of a sweaty ride followed by looking at my brown stained hands.

shellac'd tape is pretty indestructable, but not too comfy.
Gizmo, Joe is all sold out. I have mine that he just sent me, but I doubt it will fit you.
just get a plain jersey from assos or rapha (if baller) or peal izumi, hincapie, etc. (if not as baller).

It reminds me of having candy coated fists a la Hot Shots.
Rabbi, damn, yeah it's been like two years since they were all gone I've been trying to contact random people associated with HoC just to see if they'd be willing. There's this Japan disaster relief one from Bikeforum but I don't know how it'll end up fitting. Thanks.

you need to get me the measurements, then. i need the flange diameter from the spoke holes and the flange-to-center of the hub measurement. in mm, of course.

Can that only be measured with a caliper?

Caliper is best, but a ruler and a steady hand will suffice. You can find the info for most hubs, though.

Rabbi, I have a bit of an idiotic question. I have a really old road bike frame that someone had told me was 52cm, but I fit it and it was a great ride. I have found a '96 track frame that's 52cm, but there are no returns for it, will I be able to ride is as I do with a bike 53cm-54cm-55cm?

Rushing, if that 96 track frame doesn't work out for you, and you decide to sell it, i'd like to see it.

I don't recommend building it for yourself, because it would be your first time. Just have rabbi build it for you.
