So a few questions before I pull the teigger on the bike. For those of you that been riding for awhile. How difficult is to get around town on a fixed gear? does anyone here commutes on a fixed gear? i leave South West area of vegas so i just wanna know if im better of buying a different style of bike. I really want a fixed gear, but a few of my buddy's are trying to talk me out if it. They have 18 speed road bikes and normally do 40 mile rides. So a little bit about me. I come from a mountain bike, had a 2011 giant trance advance SL. Sold it cus I wasnt really using as much and also need the money to pay for my Fiances ring.
I want to buy a fixed gear for leisure, may be ride some times with my buddy's but non of them have fixed gear. Any suggestions? I got a 800 budge.
Any suggestions.

www.bikesdirect.com/I have no problem getting around on my single speed. It comes down to preferences, Ive made my 26 mile commute on a road bike and my ss and I just simply prefer my ss. have you tried a ss before? I would recommend finding one you could borrow for a long ride and just try it out. Occasionally I'll ride with my mothers boyfriend and his mates; who all ride 18 speed treks carbon. I keep up but I am noticeably working a lot harder at times.

commuting on a fg is easy, just depends on your endurance. If you arent used to i give it time and it will get easier.
i used to commute 16 miles each way now its like 1.5 lol
if fg is what youre interested in dont let another person sway you away from it just because they are hardcore roadies. shit ive done 40 mile rides on fixed... its not difficult.

Get a bike with a flip flop hub so you can do both.

get a fixed/fixed hub, you can run a freewheel on it just fine and in the future if you become more keen on fixed you can run two different cog sizes.
i recommend velomine if you want to buy a wheelset.
ive got a tb14/formula wheelset and i love it. unless the description says hand built assume its machine built and may need a once over to make sure everythings tight and true.

Cool thanx. Yeah I'm getting a flip-flop set up. Also wa size of cog you gentlemen run for in town commutes? 18?16? I'm getting the new wabi lighting (blue) then upgrading as I go, depending on how much I ride.
