what kind of tires do you guys ride on? ive got gatorskins and fucking hate them, flats all the time when i was in phoenix and i just sliced open the sidewall the other night....
thinking of panaracer ribmo's or some michelins. not sure, i thought about armadillos but they are super slow from what ive heard.

flats all the time with gatorskins? you're doing something wrong, dude. i've been on the same pair of gatorskins and inner tubes for a year. zero flats.
and as far as "slow" tires go, like those armadillos.....no. just no. you know that's not how it works.

bro ive tried running thorn resistent tubes, i keep my air pressure up and checked regularly. the other night i ripped the sidewall on a fucking rock or something. i only ride streets no offroading or abuse and i rarely skid.
it must be bad luck

I ride a Gatorskin in the from and a Soma Everwear in the rear. I have a puncture on the sidewall of the gatorskin, but so far it has kept me afloat. Everwear has lasted me months and I skid every so often.
I'd like to see how you assemble your wheels if you're slicing through tires.

uh, i put the tire on the rim make sure the tube is twisted or binding, line up logo with valve stem and inflate lol. i had just aired up the tires that night. i honestly have no idea how it got the cut sidewall.

I was gonna leave advice and such on tires, but instead I became so overly irate on the shitiness of gatorskins and my general hate for continental that I can't think straight and need a cigarette. Fucking hate gatorskins...

Continentals are probably the best clincher tire money can buy.

Continentals are probably the best clincher tire money can buy. Pretty much my experience. I use gatorskins for training, commuting, and have even raced crits on them. I get 5-6000mi out of a pair. You're doing something wrong.

Still on a pair of GatorHardshells from last year on my fixed gear and I have a pair of 'skins on my polo bike, but I made the mistake of skidding down a 200ft 30% grade hill.. Left a hell of a flat spot, but no innards showing and it still doesn't hop when I ride it. It's a good tire. Whatever you do, don't listen to that Quazhole about his Conti opinions.

yes i have rimtape and no im not doing something wrong. shit ive gotten flats after i had a shop mount them the first time around.
i have had shitty luck with them and wont be purchasing them again in the future. i picked up a michelin krylion for 28 bucks, we will see how this guy works. if it treats me well ill replace my front gator with the new pro 4 endurance

99% of east side kid flats, I'm sure, arise from not having proper rim tape. GET VELOX. IF YOUR SHITTY $50 WHEEL COMES WITH PLASTIC RIM TAPE, REPLACE IT WITH VELOX BEFORE YOU PUT A TUBE/TIRE ON IT.

no no, i thought you ment those plastic liners that go against the inside of the tire ontop of the tube, i have velox RIM tape.

thought he was refering to this trikeasylum.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/tire-change-07.jpgI run velox and like it much sir. i was getting flats prior from spoke holes then i got velox and that eliminated the flats from the inside of the tube, but i was still getting flats on the sidewall/outside of the tube. On a good note, ive riden close to 10 miles on the michelin krylion and goddamn does this tire run smooth.

Blowing out 11 gatorskin sidewalls isn't bad luck Ghabe, it's testament to the shitty quality and poor craftsmanship of the Germans who "handmade" them. No, I wasn't doing something wrong either, thier sidewalls are just notorious for being scum and failing, I hate... I'm running a krylion carbon on my polo bike, it's great, but its thin, don't except it to last too long I the back, it's much better in the front. If you want something that will last longer get some Schwalbes, Freedoms, or if you don't mind the weight, some Randonneurs. I ran a rando on my polo bike for 6 months before I changed it out, never skidded through it, but it was fairly close. I skid frequently in polo and put my bike through vigorous abuse by the way. Soma everwears are decent, they'll last you a good long while if you don't skid too much, but they get squared out and feel like shit. I'm a personal fan of Schwalbe, never had an issue with any of their tires, no sidewall failures, mysterious flats or the like.

Quazi cleans his sidewalls with shards of glass and coarse steel wool and blames the Germans for a shotty side wall. I've never seen a Gatorskin look the way it has outside of Quazi's habits. Truth to the Vitt. Rando's. Also try Freedom Thickslicks.

I was talking about those. With any wheel you get, always use clothe rim tape. As for tire liners, I have only used one type and so far they have kept me going.
I mean, I did the alley cat after the MASH drag race and I hit quite a few things going from East to West on Washington.
Speaking of that, Craig, could you sign my manifest? I heard you were the last check point and when I finally got to Upland and Alta no one was there.

no one asked you about your never-been-used thickslicks, chris. BURN I've run Continental GP's as my primary race clincher for two season and they haven't failed me once. I think I've had two flats on them. 1000's of miles I put into those tires. Probz time to change them though, haha. Quazi, you're stupid. I was supposed to be the only person up there signing manifests, but all the Mash guys went up there after the start of the alleycat, so I wasn't really necessary. Kind of pissed off that I drove all the way up there for them to just go up there themselves, but whatever, they're cool dudes to chill with. But yeah, I'll sigh your 'fest.

I've had plenty of continentals that have never failed me, it's the Gatorskins specifically that are pure fecal matter and leave said taste in my mouth about continental as a whole.

I will say, so far the michelin krylion is fancy. Rolls much better and no flats so far. Plus it has a better profile than the gatorskins. Less of a lightbulb shape.
I may try conti GP's in the future but i will never buy gatorskins again.

Michelin bicycle tires, much like their automobile tires, dry out wayyy faster than any other tire. They're not good to have in place this dry for that reason.
