You can. Its a Glycerin based lube and it functions as a lubricant, so it would do the job and rinse off with water when you get home so you're not stuck with sex all over your chain.
And to the cycle pub, if I were to make one, it'd involve a bunch of cranks driving individual freewheels welded to a drive shaft on either side that would hooked up to a transmission and transaxle with a mechanism to join the two drive shafts (which would involve one gear between the two driveshaft gears, assuming that each side of the rig is pedaling in the direction of the opposing side). From the look of the picture, that's exactly how it works.
