Dear, Rabbi
Do you know what size spokes I'll need for 32h Formula hubs and H+ Son TB14? I found some polished one I like.

Go to Pro Cyclery. Tell Rich the hubs and rims you plan on using, plus the lacing pattern. He will cut you spokes right there while you wait.

Okay. Should I have him built the wheels or should I just come to you? I kind of want to see how they are made and trued.

Really cool dude. Let him buid them. He's a pro son. Unless the drunk dude is there. He's weird.

Okay. I have to order the rims first. The drunk dude? I'll be sure to just ask for Rich.

Which brings me to ask you rabbi, is there a difference between the shimano deore qr hub and dura ace other than the price? Just interested in the front hub btw

Yes.

Deore is a low-level mtb hub. Dura Ace is a top-level road hub. Josh, Rich won't let you watch. Go to him if you have the $$ to spend. I'll do it if you're short monies.

Dear Rabbi
How often do you feel hot spots when riding SPD pedals? I always wonder how it feels and how soon it can be felt.

|
|
Post by rabbi on Feb 21, 2012 7:47:39 GMT -8
I never ride spds far. Usually less than 10mi at a time. It's a weird feeling to explain, but essentially you can feel your cleat/pedal in your foot. With my old sidis, I used to get them ~25-30mi into a ride. Different insoles helped, but just added miles/time to when I got them. With my gaernes, I have never had hotspots.

Okay. I've seen Jose clip out a couple of times on rides, as well as other people and wondered what was up. But isn't that because the pedal is more wide and the carbon sole on your Gaernes?

Yes.

Speedplays just have a very large surface area for the cleat. This isn't very intuitive because the pedal is so small, but most of the pedal that you see is touched by the cleat.

Post by nlinealac on Feb 21, 2012 13:06:16 GMT -8
.............. Craig are you on your period? Speedplay cleat are that big because the retention is in the cleat not the pedal. How is that not intuitive?
|
|
|
Post by craig on Feb 21, 2012 13:57:10 GMT -8
You just went further into detail of my first point. And it's not intuitive because a small pedal would make one think that it also had a small surface area for the cleat to touch, whereas this is not true for the speedplay because most of the actual area of the pedal is for the cleat to touch. This is compared to something like a shimano, where only the middle sliver of the pedal is touched by the cleat.
