how many of you ride brakeless? "OH I KNOW WHERE THIS iS GOING!"
I did for awhile in phoenix and out here, off and on but i definitely prefer a front brake + mah legs.
I can stop quicker and ride faster up to the point when i have to stop and in emergency situations not being run over is a plus.

I still ride brakeless. Though my ratio is 34/15, beefy straps (not cages), I ride mostly trails to and from work (or sidewalks cause MI is ruthless) and I have cross tires on. I still think its an either-or type thing. If you've been riding enough to react the same way you would with brakes, without them, why the fuck does it matter? I still lock up the rear in a heartbeat and my ass never leaves the saddle. If I had a brake on the past few weeks, I would've gone through 50 cables/enough housing to wrap around the world twice due to all the rain/snow. I'd say fukka brake, even in a big city. Just don't be stupid and wear a helmet when you ride. There's my 1/2 a cent.

I rode brakeless for a few years, luvd it, and to be honest I hated the feeling of having brakes on a fixed gear and felt more comfortable without it. but anymore I say you should have them because only saying "don't be stupid" isn't gonna help when yer chain breaks going down a big hill towards cross traffic.

I've never broken an Izumi Eco chain. That's all I use/will use/ever use. Proper maintenance and tensioning ensures that this is never an issue. Goes along with "don't be stupid". I also believe that brakeless is not for everyone. Can't stop with straps on your feet, get out of the street.

well physics would dictate that brakes allow quicking stopping and besides if it can fail, its not a matter if it will but when.

to each his own i guess. what brian said about how much housing he woulda burned through is genius.
but as for as i go with bikes, always use a brake. brakeless polo is fucking stupid.

more like doing polo on a 46/16 ratio with no brakes and running into walls. and yes falling over too.

I think that having brakes is nothing negative, especially when wet weather is involved or if you're on a road, trail, course that is not dry and smooth.
Riding without brakes can be bad some of the time. Clipping out is an issue and I have clipped out of both road and MTB clipless pedals. Needless to say, that I changed the tension on the road pedals, but my TIME ATAC pedals don't have much of that.
Like everyone else has mentioned: to each their own. If you can ride a certain way and be safe about it, then do so. Although, you should know the limits of your bike as well as yourself.

what brian said about how much housing he woulda burned through is genius. gore ride-on cables. Fully sealed cables negate what he's saying. Cross racers use them and there bikes go through more hell than any commuting bike.

thought of that. that maybe one could just invest in hella strong cables/housing. i dunno.
all i know is, knowing brian. he's probably not going fast enough to need a brake. he could just put his foot down on the road.

I hate Gores. Stupid to install, cost mad monies, and I've never had a positive experience. I played polo brakeless once.. But the ground is slick, so you need a front to stop faster. It was still possible.
Actually, Ghabe, I just put my dick in the spokes. It's not like I use it for anything.

I played polo fixed brakeless for 1.5 years, only reason I use a front brake nowadays is purely for maneuverability. Brakes are overrated, just learn how to ride your fucking bike and pay attention, because 8 outta 10 times when you're in one of those "emergency situations" where you need a brake, it's most likely too late anyway. Use a brake or don't, cause frankly, I couldn't care less either way, it's not my funeral if you're too stupid to use common sense when you take those risks.

Yeah.. this forum has been dead for a few weeks.. months.. years even, compared to the o.g. lvfixed.
We just need interesting, controversial threads.. How about a massive SRAM v. Shimano v. Campy thread?
Oh, I got something constructive.. Brb
