What nathan means is "I'm from tarck, so any new thing in the bike world (other than power meters), is fucking retarded." I mostly agree with that mindset, because most "innovative" new bike or bike-related technology is useless and can't beat the sheer simple usability of a safety triangle, chain driven bicycle/styrofoam helmet/spoked wheel/etc, but I digress. This invisible bike helmet is ridiculously cool and almost certainly has potential. Sure the design is a bit bulky and not comfortable (especially for racing) for obvious reasons, but materials engineering is rapidly evolving and that big bulky mess could evolve into the thickness of a sweater. One of my huge interests in mechanical engineering comes from racing and seeing teammates/friends get fucked up from bike crashes. I'm very interested in nanotechnology based suits that could protect riders from high trauma impacts. |
