if you ride a 54/55, a 52 will be too small.

dear rabbi. i want to build a rear wheel, i have all 32 spokes, hoop, and the hub. everything is ready to go. Is there a good website were i can follow instructions to build a wheel correctly? I don't recommend building it for yourself, because it would be your first time. Just have rabbi build it for you. You have to start some where. build them up, just don't plan on riding them... ever.

unless you have a truing stand, i recommend not doing it yourself

I knew someone was going to say that. I really did. How's he ever going to learn if he always has someone else do it for him? I'm sure Nathan didn't always know how to build wheels, I'm also sure that he wouldn't have taken your response for an answer if he wanted to build a wheel way back in '71. Someone give Jose some tips, or help him, or something. Jose, if there's no one willing to hands-on teach you and you don't mind maybe fucking up, try it yourself- there's probably videos somewhere

in that case, jose, i've laced a few wheels up in my time from a beginner level and they've ended up fine. look on youtube and the internet in general. invest in a spoke wrench and a truing stand. i just recommended nathan because he builds wheels with good quality for cheap.

So what is the trick to getting a decently tight chain, I can never seem to get it tight enough

come to the procyclery ride tomorrow and ask richard. that's how i learned the proper way. it's much better with a hands on demonstration.

You have to put it on and back it up one side at a time little by little. Also you don't want to over tighten it.

A chain should only be tight enough so it doesn't fall off. A loose chain is a fast chain.

Well I guess I'll try to ride it a bit to see if it pops off then go from there. It seems pretty loose right now but it sounds like its worth taking it out to see. Thanks

Well, with your chainline you'll need it pretty tight.

dear rabbi a couple months ago i bought some drop bars from nashbar.com for 20 dollars, and yesterday i notice a huge crack in them, and i want to upgrade to something more reliable, what do you recommend?? Anything but track bars from 3T, Deda, FSA, etc. Track bars are useless unless you're on the track in the drops. DO NOT PURCHASE IMINUSDAUGHTER PRODUCTS. If you want something like that but better and not a total rip off of someone's name and product, get hplusson sl42 or formation face rims. Either way, they're gonna be heavy and roll solid. If you want something lighter, get hplusson f30s or tb14s. I've used both the tb14 and f30 and I've never had a problem. Richard at pro cyclery/prowheelbuilder.com can build you the rims into any hubs you want.

Hey Nathan, You hear any feedback on these...? I think that they may seem a little overpriced at that site, but I more meant just in general on their performance. www.iminusd.bigcartel.com/product/id42-wheelset-whiteDO NOT PURCHASE IMINUSDAUGHTER PRODUCTS. Dear, Rabbi. I have a few questions about pedals, pedal straps, and plastic cages. I'm not too sure about certain brands of pedals, but I would like to have double straps instead of a single strap.

I can cut some of the suspense and tell you what he's probably going to tell you: "Drop the straps, get a road biek, clipless, and start racing." Or is that just what I say?
